On the assumption that Smith Jr does retire, he’ll at least have fought opposition at the upper rungs of the 168lb division, even if he lost each time he fought the best. Except if Smith is satisfied just facing domestic level defiance, he’s better off retiring, for the reason the chances of him getting another inflated ranking like the one that he previously had in order to get two cracks at the WBO title in opposition to Arthur Abraham are extremely remote.
Gallagher wasn't surprised with how the fight panned out and now feels it's time for his fighter to hang up the gloves and go "out to one of the best on the planet". "I’ve told Paul to probably consider retiring now," said Gallagher.
